Hoera! Stof Genoeg bestaat op 1 augustus 2011 precies 1 jaar. Ik wil al mijn bezoekers hierbij heel hartelijk bedanken voor de interesse, steun, aanmoediging en vriendschap voor een beginnende blogger! En dan speciaal Linda Franz, die mij heeft aangemoedigd om dit blog te beginnen, en alle leden van de Inklingo Yahoo Groep.

Bij een verjaardag horen natuurlijk hapjes, en daarom presenteer ik jullie bitterballen en olijven. Je vindt ze in de vorm van twee blokjes in de Blok van de Maand (BOM) quilts. Ik had deze in mijn vorige post, enigszins opgeblazen, aangekondigd als zelfontworpen appliqué quilts met 12 blokken. Ik hoop dat jullie erom kunnen lachen! Ik heb er zelf wel om gegniffeld.

Het komende jaar zal ik op iedere eerste van de maand twee patronen in de vorm van een gratis te downloaden pdf op dit blog plaatsen, en aan de Engelstalige lezers ook iets vertellen over het Hollandse Hapje van de maand.

Voor degenen die geen EQ7 hebben zijn er dus de pdf’s. Het zijn er meteen een heleboel:

HOLLANDSE HAP BOM

Hollandse Hap / Dutch Delights BOM Quilt

• Een lijntekening van het blokje met de bitterbal, op ware grootte (3 x 3 inch, ca. 7,6 cm.). Helaas staan de blokjes wat onvoordelig op het vel, maar al mijn pogingen om dit te verbeteren resulteerden in afwijkend formaat, dus ik heb het maar zo gelaten. Deze lijntekening zou je kunnen printen op een transparant, om aan de voorkant van je blok te gebruiken om de lapjes te plaatsen, maar dat is wellicht wat overdreven in dit geval. Je kunt hem ook op papier printen, vooral om de tekst te kunnen overtrekken. Misschien wil je de tekst na het printen nog zwart inkleuren voor meer zichtbaarheid.
• Een lijntekening van de bitterbal in spiegelbeeld. Mijn gedachte hierbij was dat het voor het overtrekken van de tekst op de stof handig is als de stof aan de achterkant tijdelijk verstevigd is met freezer paper. Als je het blok in spiegelbeeld op freezer paper print, kun je het op de verkeerde kant van de achtergrondstof strijken. Als je het lapje dan tegen het licht houdt kun je de tekst gemakkelijk met een uitwasbare of juist permanente stift overnemen.
• Een patroonblad met alle malletjes voor de hele quilt Hollandse Hap BOM (elk patroondeel maar 1x), met een 6 mm. naadtoeslag. Ik kan me eigenlijk niet voorstellen dat iemand dit echt met needleturn appliqué gaat maken, maar voor de zekerheid geef ik de malletjes toch maar. De grote cirkels zijn allemaal 2 inch. Ik heb ervoor gezorgd dat alle grotere cirkels te maken zijn met de Inklingo Circles collectie, en met behulp van Karen Kay Buckley’s Perfect Circles®. De kleinere zou ik vervangen door kraaltjes of borduurwerk.
• Idem in spiegelbeeld.
• Een patroonblad met alle malletjes zonder naadtoeslag, voor bijv. vilten lapjes.
• Idem in spiegelbeeld, voor bijv. katoenen lapjes die je opstrijkt met vliesofix.

Volgens mij heb ik daarmee alle smaken te pakken. Je kunt op deze manier precies downloaden wat je nodig hebt. Je kunt alles ook permanent vinden op mijn pagina met downloads.

FOOD BOM

• Een lijntekening van het blokje met de olijf, op ware grootte (3 x 3 inch, ca. 7,6 cm.).
• Een lijntekening van de olijf in spiegelbeeld.
• Een patroonblad met alle malletjes voor de hele quilt Food BOM (elk patroondeel maar 1x), met een 6 mm. naadtoeslag.
• Idem, in spiegelbeeld.
• Een patroonblad met alle malletjes zonder naadtoeslag.
• Idem, in spiegelbeeld.

Toen ik enthousiast alvast mijn dubbele BOM-melding deed had ik wel de ontwerpen af, maar nog niet de beloofde pdf’s van de patronen voor degenen die geen EQ7 hebben. Voor die voorbarigheid werd ik direct gestraft, want het maken van de pdf’s bleek nog een heel gedoe. Het probleem is dat ik in EQ7 Appliqué Text heb gebruikt. Ik was even vergeten dat je dat niet als onderdeel van je blok kunt printen, en ook niet afzonderlijk als complete tekst. Wel als allemaal rare losse malletjes (de omtrek van de letters en de gaatjes in de letters allemaal apart, GRRRR).

Het is dus met zwaar verhoogde bloeddruk en kale bloederige plekken op mijn schedeldak (waar ik bosjes haren uit mijn hoofd heb getrokken) dat ik jullie bovenstaande pdf’s presenteer: op ware grootte en MET tekst! De tekst weglaten was natuurlijk geen optie, ik was bang dat het dan wellicht een scherpzinnige enkeling zou opvallen dat de blokjes voor Edammer en Goudse nogal op elkaar lijken.

Nou, jullie snappen natuurlijk wel waarom ik hier geen kant-en-klaar quiltje presenteer. Ik had, voordat ik aan het printen van de patronen begon, echt gedacht dat me dat wel zou lukken in een week, met wat rondjes vilt, een tubetje lijm en textielstift! Maar helaas…Misschien volgende maand beter?

STOF GENOEG 1 YEAR OLD

Hurray! Stof Genoeg exists exactly one year on August 1, 2011! I want to thank all my visitors for their interest, support, encouragement and friendship for a beginning blogger! And especially Linda Franz, who encouraged me to start this blog in the first place, and all the members of the Inklingo Yahoo Group.

An anniversary calls for snacks, so I am presenting ‘bitterballen’ and olives. You find them in the shape of two blocks in the Block of the Month (BOM) quilts above. I announced these, a bit pumped up, as quilts with 12 appliqué designs. I hope you can laugh about it! I sure had fun cooking this up.

In the year ahead I will put block patterns in the form of free downloadable pdf’s on this blog on the first of each month, and I will tell you a little about the Dutch Delight of the month.

I am starting with the ‘bitterbal’ [bitterball, bitter referring to alcohol, which is not in it, but tastes good with it!]. I love bitterballen, and I think a celebration is not complete without them. You can read more about this savoury Dutch snack here on Wikipedia and you can find a recipe here.

For those without EQ7 I provide the pdf’s. And a lot of them to start with:

Food BOM  

Olijf - Olive

• A line drawing of the block with the olive, at actual size (3 x 3 inches). Unfortunately the blocks are a placed on the paper in a very uneconomical way. Because all my efforts to change this resulted in size deviations, I gave up and left it.  You could print this line drawing on a clear overlay, to use for placement of the patches, but that may be overdone in this case. You could also print it on paper, for tracing the text. You may want to fill it in with black after printing, for better vision.
• A line drawing of the olive in mirror image. I did this because I thought you may find it handy to stabilize your fabric with freezer paper for tracing the text. If you print the text in mirror image on FP, you can iron it to the back of your background. If you hold it against a source of light you can easily trace the text with a wash-away or permanent marker.
• A pattern sheet with all templates for the entire Food BOM Quilt. (Each template only once), with a quarter inch seam allowance. I can hardly imagine anyone making this project with needle turn appliqué, but I am providing the templates, just in case. The larger circles are all 2 inches. I made sure that all the larger circles can be made with the Inklingo Circles collection, and using Karen Kay Buckley’s Perfect Circles®. I would use beads or embroidery for the smaller circles.
• The same pattern sheet with templates in mirror image.
• A pattern sheet with all templates without seam allowance, to use with felt, for example.
• A pattern sheet with all templates without seam allowance, in mirror image, to use for fusible appliqué.

I think I catered for all tastes with the above. You can just download what you need. Soon you can find everything permanently on my Downloads Page.

A Dutch fried snack to go with alcohol ("bitter")

• A line drawing of the block with the bitterbal, at actual size (3 x 3 inches).
• A line drawing of the bitterbal in mirror image.
• A pattern sheet with all templates for the entire HH BOM Quilt. (Each template only once), with a quarter inch seam allowance.
• The same pattern sheet with templates in mirror image.
• A pattern sheet with all templates without seam allowance.
• A pattern sheet with all templates without seam allowance, in mirror image.

When I made my double BOM announcement, I had the designs finished, but not the pattern pdf’s. I was immediately punished for my premature public promise, because printing the patterns proved problematic! (anniversary alliteration, annoying?)

The problem is I used Appliqué Text in EQ7. I had forgotten you can’t print this as part of your block. Nor can you print is as a separate text. You can only print it as a bunch of odd templates (with the surround of the letters and the holes in the letters all separately, GRRR!)

So it is with pride and joy, combined with much raised blood pressure and bloody patches on my skull, that I am presenting the pdf’s above at actual size and WITH text!

Of course, leaving the text out was not an option. I feared some very perceptive reader might discover that, without text, the blocks for Mozzarella and Meatball are suspiciously similar.

So, you understand why I can’t show you a picture of a finished quilt. I did think, before I started working on the patterns, that with a little felt, glue and a permanent marker I could proudly present you with a finished product, but alas…Maybe next month?
