King's Crown blocks alternated with Log Cabin variation blocks

En dan bijna het laatste deel van de serie met informatie over hoe je de rood-met-witte quiltontwerpen voor Club EQ van mei 2011 kunt maken met Inklingo patroondelen.

Dit ontwerp borduurt voort op de quilts uit de vorige post. Deze keer worden de King’s Crown blokken uit de vorige post afgewisseld met een Log Cabin variatie, met een ‘diamond in a square’ in het midden. In alleen rood-met-wit is hij een beetje druk, ik denk dat een bonte versie van restjes ook heel goed zou werken. Ik geef weer informatie voor twee maten blokken. Alle genoemde collecties zijn downloads, behalve cd #2 (uitverkocht).

De benodigde Inklingo patroondelen zijn:

VOOR 6 INCH KING’s CROWN BLOKKEN [ca. 15,2 cm.]

• 3 inch vierkant (het midden van het patchworkblok): in de 4,5 inch Storm at Sea collectie en in de 9 inch Storm at Sea collectie. 
• 1,5 inch vierkant (de 4 hoeken van het patchworkblok):  in de 12 inch Drunkard’s Path collectie en in de 9 inch Storm at Sea collectie.
  
• 3 inch kwartvierkant driehoeken (QST’s). 4 Rode per blok. Deze zitten in de collectie met twaalf maten QST’s, de Quarter Square Triangles 00B, en ze staan ook op de uitverkochte cd 2.
• 1,5 inch halfvierkant driehoeken (HST’s). 8 Witte per blok. Deze zitten in de 4,5 inch Storm at Sea collectie en in de 9 inch Storm at Sea collectie. 

VOOR 6 INCH LOG CABIN VARIATIE BLOKKEN

• 0,75 inch brede rechthoeken, variërend van 1,5 inch lang tot 6 inch lang. Deze zitten allemaal in de 0,75 inch Log Cabin collectie.
• 0,75 inch halfvierkant driehoeken (HST’s). (4 Wit per blok). Deze zitten in de 4,5 inch Storm at Sea collectie en ze staan op cd #2 (uitverkocht).
• 1,06 inch vierkant (1 Rood per blok): in de 4,5 inch Storm at Sea collectie en in de 20 inch Feathered Star collectie.
  

VOOR 8 INCH KING’s CROWN BLOKKEN [ca. 20,3 cm.]

• 4 inch vierkant (1 Wit per blok): in de 12 inch Storm at Sea collectie.
• 2 inch vierkant (4 Rode per blok): in de 12 inch Storm at Sea, in de 6 inch Storm at Sea collectie en in de 1 inch Log Cabin collectie.
• 4 inch kwartvierkant driehoeken (QST’s). (4 Rode per blok). Deze staan alleen op de uitverkochte cd #2. Als je die hebt, heb je geluk. Als je hem niet hebt, kun je deze grote driehoeken ook samenstellen door twee kleinere aan elkaar te naaien. Er loopt dan een naad loodrecht vanaf de punt naar beneden, haaks op de basis van de driehoek. Gebruik in dat geval 8 rode 2 inch HST’s (zie volgende bullet).
• 2 inch halfvierkant driehoeken (HST’s). (8 Witte per blok). Deze zitten ook weer in de 12 inch Storm at Sea collectie, in de 6 inch Storm at Sea collectie en ze staan op de uitverkochte cd #2.

VOOR 8 INCH LOG CABIN VARIATIE BLOKKEN

• 1 inch brede rechthoeken, variërend van 2 inch lang tot 8 inch lang. Deze zitten allemaal in de 1 inch Log Cabin collectie.
• 1 inch halfvierkant driehoeken (HST’s). (4 Wit per blok). Deze zitten in de 6 inch Storm at Sea collectie en ze staan op cd #2 (uitverkocht).
• 1,41 inch vierkant (1 Rood per blok): in de 6 inch Storm at Sea collectie.

OVERIGE INFORMATIE

Zoals altijd als je een Inklingo quilt gaat maken: download en print Linda Franz’ handige projecthulpje, Monkey’s Cheat Sheet om in te vullen, zodat je achter elkaar alle stof kunt afmeten, printen en snijden. Je kunt dan binnen een paar uur beginnen met naaien! Het uitzoeken van de stof kost nog het meeste tijd! 

In de Inklingo-collecties staat aangegeven hoeveel stof je nodig hebt voor het printen van de patroondelen. Je moet daar dan zelf nog de hoeveelheden voor de randen (en de afwerkbies en de achterkant) bij optellen.

Alle eenheden met driehoeken kun je met behulp van Inklingo en je naaimachine heel snel en heel gemakkelijk naaien. Linda Franz legt met plaatjes uit hoe je dat doet in haar (Engelse) Triangle Tips. Deze pdf kun je gratis downloaden.

Part 6 (and almost finished) of the series on how to make the red-and-white quilts that I designed for the May 2011 Club EQ challenge, with Inklingo shapes.

This design continues with the King’s Crown blocks from the previous post, now alternated with a Log Cabin variation with a diamond in a square in the center. In just red-and-white it is a bit busy, I think this would work as a scrappy quilt as well. I am giving information for two block sizes again. All the collections mentioned are downloads, except for cd #2 (which is sold out).

The pattern shapes you need are:

FOR 6 INCH KING’s CROWN BLOCKS

• 3 inch square (the center of the patchwork block): in the 4,5 inch Storm at Sea collection and in the 9 inch Storm at Sea collection.
• 1.5 inch square (the 4 corners of the patchwork block): in the 12 inch Drunkard’s Path collection and in the 9 inch Storm at Sea collection.
• 3 inch Quarter Square Triangles (QST’s). (4 Red per block). These are in the collection with twelve sizes of QST’s, the Quarter Square Triangles 00B, and they are also on cd #2 (sold out).
• 1.5 inch Half Square Triangles (HST’s). (8 White per block). These are in the 4,5 inch Storm at Sea collection and in the 9 inch Storm at Sea collection.

FOR 6 INCH LOG CABIN VARIATION BLOCKS

If you don’t have cd #2, you can replace these triangles by two smaller HST’s joined together. There will be a seam running through the middle of your larger triangle, from the top of the point to the middle of the base. In this case you need 8 red 2 inch HST’s per block.  See the next bullet.
• 2 inch Half Square Triangles (HST’s). 8 White per block. These are in the 12 inch Storm at Sea collection, in the 6 inch Storm at Sea collection and also on cd #2 (sold out).

FOR 8 INCH LOG CABIN VARIATION BLOCKS

• 1 inch wide rectangles, from 2 inches long to 8 inches long. These are all in the  1 inch Log Cabin collection.
• 1 inch Half Square Triangles (HST’s). (4 White per block). These are in the 6 inch Storm at Sea collection and on cd #2 (sold out).
• 1,41 inch square (1 Red per block): in the 6 inch Storm at Sea collection and in the 20 inch Feathered Star collection.

FURTHER INFORMATION

As always if you plan on making a quilt using Inklingo printed shapes, download and print Linda Franz’ handy project planner, Monkey’s Cheat Sheet to fill out, so you can measure, print and cut all of your fabric at once. Within a couple of hours (at most, depending on quilt size) you can start piecing! Picking the fabrics takes up most of this time! 

In the Inklingo collections you will find how much fabric you need for printing the pattern shapes. All you have to do is add the yardage for the borders (and binding and backing).

You can machine piece all units with triangles very quickly and easily with Inklingo. Linda Franz very clearly explains how, in her illustrated free download with Triangle Tips.
