Wow!! De reacties op mijn post van gisteren zijn overweldigend! Sinterklaas heeft ZELF gereageerd, en me direct laten weten welke versie van ‘Ster van Myra’ hij het mooist vindt. Lees de comments maar als je me niet gelooft. 

En… hij heeft me een hoge baan aangeboden in Spanje! De pietjes kunnen alle verzoeken om quiltstof en Inklingo niet meer aan. Ik ben enorm vereerd. Maar nu ik erover nadenk, begrijp ik wel waarom sommige Pieten zo slecht zijn in hun werk. Als dit representatief is voor het aannamebeleid van Sinterklaas… Ik denk eigenlijk niet dat ik geschikt ben als Hoofdpiet van zijn nieuwe quiltafdeling. Quiltontwerppiet is een beter idee. Ik denk dat ik maar eens keihard ga onderhandelen met Sinterklaas! ;-) Misschien kan ik mijn droombaan eruit slepen en een marsepeinen varken met het gewicht van DHDH in zijn studententijd (veel bier).  

Maar ik wil niet ondankbaar lijken, de goedheiligman heeft me ook al enorm verwend met de schoenkado’s die ik vanochtend aantrof. De Sint kent alle kindertjes toch zo goed, hij wist zeker dat ik een beetje verliefd ben op Linda’s Monkey: Ik heb van hem mijn eigen Monkey-met-een-driewielertje gekregen. En deze is nog schattiger. En ik kreeg nog een grote chocoladeletter.

What more could a girl wish for: Chocolate and a cute Monkey! - Wat kan een meisje nog meer wensen; chocolade en een schattig apie!

Wow!! The response to yesterday’s post has been completely overwhelming. Sinterklaas HIMSELF has responded, and let me know already what version of ‘Star of Myra’ he likes best. You can read the comments if you don’t believe me.

He has asked me to make it for him, and… offered me a prestigious job with him in Spain. The Piets are flooded by wish lists requesting Inklingo and quilting fabric! I am so very flattered. But now that I think about it, I can see why some Piets are so lousy at their jobs. If this is how he hires… I don’t think I am the best choice to become Head Piet of his new Quilting Department. Quilt Design Piet would be a better idea. I think I am going to negotiate really tough with Sinterklaas! ;-) I may be able to get myself my dream job and a marzipan pig the weight of my spouse when he was a student (lots of beer).

But I don’t want to seem ungrateful, His Holiness has already spoiled me with the shoe gifts I found this morning. The Sint knows all the children so well, he must have known that I have a crush on Linda’s Monkey, for he gave me my very own, Monkey-with-a-trike. And this one is even cuter! And he gave me a large chocolate initial.

“Sinterklaas Kapoentje, gooi wat in mijn schoentje…” Ik hou van Sinterklaas. Als kind maak je dan een tekening voor hem, en als volwassene ontwerp je dan in EQ7 een quilt voor hem. Dit is hem geworden. Een beetje winters, aansluitend bij de klassieke smaak die hoort bij een hoge leeftijd. Geschikt voor een heer, maar toch met hartjes. Dit ontwerp heb ik ‘Ster van Myra’ genoemd, en ik hoop dat Sinterklaas hem mooi vindt.

Ik denk dat ik de tekening vanavond in mijn schoen leg, naast een appel voor het paard, en natuurlijk mijn verlanglijstje. Ik ben alleen nog niet  helemaal uit de kleuren… Weet je wat, ik denk dat ik mijn schoen meerdere keren ga zetten, met steeds een andere versie van het ontwerp. Dan merk ik vanzelf welke Sinterklaas het mooiste vindt. Want die beloont hij natuurlijk met het lekkerste snoep in mijn schoen ;-) (Een marsepeinen varkentje graag, lieve Sinterklaas. Kikkers en muizen of kruidnootjes zijn ook erg welkom, maar zal ik opvatten als een teken dat de quilt nog niet helemaal naar uw smaak is).

Ik hoop dat Sint quiltpieten heeft die deze quilt voor hem gaan maken, misschien zelfs wel Inklingopietjes! Want deze quilt is helemaal Inklingobaar, en in de geest van Sinterklaas, speciaal ontworpen met de twee gratis te downloaden collecties Inklingo patroondelen! Maar je kunt hem ook met een ‘betaalde’ collectie maken. De achtpuntige sterren zijn er nl. in 4,5 inch (de gratis collectie)  en 6 inch (LeMoyne Star).

De blokken met boogjes en hartjes zijn uit de gratis appliqué collectie ‘Circle of Hearts’. Deze blokken kunnen de appliqué-pieten gebruiken voor hun favoriete appliqué techniek, en deze blokken kun je in elke gewenste maat printen, dus ook in 4,5 inch [11,4 cm.] of 6 inch [15,24 cm.]. In het midden van de quilt heb ik de kwart cirkels gebruikt in dezelfde maat als de sterren, met alleen het middelste appliqué hartje. In de rand heb ik de kwart cirkels in een iets kleinere maat gecombineerd tot halve cirkels, en daar alle appliqué hartjes gebruikt.

Als de pietjes deze quilt maken met 6 inch blokken in het middendeel wordt het middendeel ca. 42 inch x 59 inch [ca. 108 x 150 cm.], en totaal (maar dat hangt natuurlijk af van het aantal randen en de exacte breedte) ca. 67 inch x 85 inch [ca. 170 cm. x 216 cm.]. De blokken in de boogjesrand zijn dan ca. 4,6 inch vierkant [11,7 cm.]. Hoe groot de rand tussen het middendeel en de appliqué-rand precies moet worden meten de pietjes dan na het naaien van het middendeel en de randen, zodat hij er precies tussen past. 

Met 4,5 inch blokken wordt het middendeel ca. 32 x 44,5 inch [ca. 81 x 113 cm.], en totaal ca. 55 x 69 inch. De blokken in de boogjesrand zijn ca. 3,5 inch. 

Maar de pieten kunnen deze ontwerpen makkelijk maken met meer of minder blokken in het midden, en wat minder, maar grotere, boogjes in de randen. Voor de driehoeken in de randen en op de hoeken van het middendeel kunnen ze de speciale Inklingo Setting Triangles voor 4,5 of voor 6 inch On-Point blokken gebruiken.

Nou, ik hoop dat de pieten er enthousiast mee aan de slag gaan, maar dan wel graag NA 5 december. Het is natuurlijk niet de bedoeling dat de pakjespieten nu gaan quilten en dat zo leuk vinden dat ze de kindertjes (klein of groot) helemaal vergeten!

I love Sinterklaas. As a child I made drawings for him, and now that I’m all grown up, I designed him a quilt in EQ7. You can see it above. A bit wintery, suitable to the classic taste that goes with a very high age. It is appropriate for a gentleman, but has hearts on it all the same. I named this design ‘Star of Myra’ which refers to the historic figure that Sinterklaas is based on. Saint Nicholas was the bishop of Myra. I hope Sinterklaas likes my design.

I think I will put it in my shoe tonight, next to the window (as we don’t have a chimney), together with an apple for Sint’s horse, and of course my wish list. If I sing songs tonight next to the window, Sinterklaas and his helpers (all named ‘Piet’, pronounced as Pete), who will be riding on the roof tops, will hear my songs, and know there will be a shoe with something for the horse, and probably a wish list to collect.

I can’t quite decide on the colors, though… Sint always goes dressed in red and white, with yellow/gold and purple accents. But maybe he likes blue and green as well…. You know what? I will put my shoe next to the window several times, each time with a different version of this design! I will know which one is Sint’s favorite, by what the Piets leave in my shoe in return. (A marzipan piggy, please, dear Sinterklaas. Candy frogs or mice, or ‘pepernoten‘ will be much appreciated, but considered a sign that the quilt is not entirely to your liking yet).

I hope Sinterklaas has Quilting Piets who will make this quilt for him, maybe even Inklingo Piets! For this quilt is entirely Inklingoable, and, in the giving spirit of Sinterklaas, especially designed with the two free download collections of Inklingo shapes! But you can also make it with a ‘paid’ collection. The eight pointed stars are available in two sizes; 4.5 inch (free collection) and in 6 inch (6 inch LeMoyne star).

The blocks with the curves and hearts are from the free appliqué collection ‘Circle of Hearts’. Appliqué Piets can use these blocks for their favorite appliqué technique, and print the blocks in any size (like 4.5 or 6 inches). In the center part of the quilt, I used the quarter circles in the same size as the stars, with only one heart in the middle.

In the borders I combined quarter circle blocks in a smaller size, to form half circles, and used all the appliqué hearts.

If the Piets make this quilt with 6 inch blocks in the center, this part will be ca. 42 x 59 inches, and total dimensions, (depending on the number of border strips and the exact width) would be about 67 x 85 inches. In this case the blocks in the border would have to be ca. 4.6 inches square. After sewing the center and the appliqué borders, the Pietjes will measure how big the inner strips would have to be exactly to fit between them.

With 4.5 inch blocks the center part would be ca. 32 x 44.5 inches, and total dimensions ca. 55 x 69 inches. The blocks in the appliqué border would be 3.5 inches.

But the Piets could easily make this design with more or less blocks in the center, and less, but bigger, half circles in the borders. For the triangles along the edges and on the corners of the center part, they could use the special Inklingo Setting Triangles for 4.5 or 6 inch On-Point blocks.

Well, I would like the Piets to get onto this with enthusiasm, but please, AFTER 5 December. We don’t want the Present Piets to start quilting now and become so engrossed, that they completely forget about the kids (little or big)!

LeMoyne Stars and Pinwheels On-Point

Terwijl ik in EQ7 aan het spelen was met on point zettingen voor Drunkard’s Path blokken in deze eerdere post, heb ik ook een paar versies gemaakt met LeMoyne Stars (achtpuntige sterren) op de punt, afgewisseld met pinwheels.

Je kunt deze quilt maken met beide maten Inklingo LeMoyne Stars. Voor de 6 inch [15,24 cm.] sterren maak je 6 inch pinwheel blokken van 3 inch halfvierkant driehoeken (HST’s). Voor de 4,5 inch [11,4 cm.] sterren uit de gratis collectie maak je passende pinwheel blokken van 2,25 inch HST’s.

Beide maten HST zitten in de downloadcollectie met twaalf maten HST’s, de TRI HST 00B, en ook op de uitverkochte cd nr. 2. Verder zitten 3 inch HST’s ook in de 9 inch Storm at Sea collectie, en 2,25 inch HST’s zitten ook in de 6,75 inch Storm at Sea collectie.

Als je cd 2 of de download met twaalf maten HST’s hebt kun je ook de blauw-zwarte versie hieronder maken, met extra naden in de sterren. Bij een goede kleurverdeling lijkt het of er extra grote, transparante pinwheels in de quilt zitten, die deels over de sterren heenliggen.

De driehoeken die je hiervoor nodig hebt zijn alleen beschikbaar voor 6 inch sterren. Je vervangt elke 1,75 inch vierkant in de hoeken van de sterren door twee 1,75 inch HST’s. Je vervangt elke 2,5 inch kwartvierkant driehoek (QST) tussen de sterpunten door twee 1,25 inch HST’s.

LeMoyne star blocks with extra seams, alternated with pinwheels, on point

While playing around in EQ7 with On Point settings for Drunkard’s Path blocks for this previous post, I also made some versions with LeMoyne Stars set on point, alternated by pinwheels.

You can make this quilt with both sizes of Inklingo LeMoyne Stars. For the 6 inch stars you make 6 inch pinwheel blocks with 3 inch Half Square Triangles (HST’s). For the 4.5 inch stars from the free collection you make matching pinwheel blocks with 2.25 inch HST’s.

Both sizes HST are in the download collection with twelve sizes of HST’s, TRI HST 00B, and also on cd #2 (which is sold out). 3 inch HST’s are also in the 9 inch Storm at Sea collection, and 2.25 inch HST are also in the 6.75 inch Storm at Sea collection.

If you have either cd#2 or the download with twelve sizes of HST’s, you can make the black-blue version with extra seam lines in the stars. With the right color placement, it looks as if there are extra large, transparent pinwheels in the quilt, that partly cover the stars. 

The triangles you need are only available for 6 inch stars. You replace each 1.75 inch square in the corners of the stars with two 1.75 inch HST’s. You replace each 2.5 inch Quarter Square Tiangle (QST) between the star points with two 1.25 inch HST’s

On-Point Drunkard’s Path Quilt Designs

Inklingo’s Linda Franz heeft weer twee superbruikbare collecties patroondelen uitgebracht, nl. de On-Point collecties. Deze bevatten de driehoeken die je nodig hebt om je vierkante blokken op de punt (on-point) in je quilt te verwerken. De collectie is er voor blokken in de standaardmaten 4,5 inch [11,4 cm.] en 6 inch [15,2 cm.].

Als je standaardmaat blokken op de punt zet moet je de randen recht afmaken met ‘rare maten’ driehoeken. Die zijn lastig af te meten, maar dat hoeft met Inklingo dus niet meer. Alleen maar printen, rechtstreeks op je stof, en snijden op de lijntjes. De collecties bevatten ook de vierkanten in 4,5 en 6 inch, voor degenen die de naailijnen goed kunnen gebruiken. En als bonus bevatten beide collecties elk nog een appliqué motief.

Ik ben erg blij met deze collecties, want ik ben dol op On-Point settings voor quilts. Ik laat hier vier voorbeelden zien die ik heb ontworpen in EQ7. In deze quilts heb ik de 3 inch Inklingo Drunkard’s Path blokken gecombineerd met de 6 inch On-Point patroondelen.

In de onderschriften staat per ontwerp welke patroondelen ik gebruikt heb. Het middendeel van alle quilts, binnen de eerste rand, meet 50,9 inches vierkant [129,3 cm.]. De DP randen zonder extra strips zijn ca. 8,5 inch [21,5 cm.] breed.

Je kunt op elk plaatje klikken voor een vergroting. Veel plezier ermee!

Inklingo’s Linda Franz has issued two super useful collections of shapes, the On-Point Collections. These contain the triangles you need to put your square blocks in a quilt on-point. There is a collection for the standard sizes of 4.5 inch and 6 inches.

If you put standard size blocks on-point, you have to make the edges straight with triangles in ‘weird sizes’. They are tricky to measure, but with Inklingo you don’t have to anymore. Just print directly on your fabric, and cut on the lines. The collections also have squares in 4.5 and 6 inches, for those who like to use the sewing lines. And as a bonus, each collection also has an appliqué motif.

I am very happy with these collections, because I love On-Point Settings for quilts. I am showing you four examples I designed in EQ7. In these quilts I combined the Inklingo 3 inch Drunkard’s Path blocks with the 6 inch On-Point shapes.

Under each picture I have written which shapes are used in the design. The center parts of each quilt, within the first border, is 50.9 inches square. The DP borders are ca. 8,5 inches wide, without extra strips.
